If You Did Something, Let 'em Know
The more you do, the more you forget what you've done. Or so it seems for me. In a week's time, I can start development on a client's website, design another client's print ad and voice a TV commercial for a production company in El Paso. Seems like a normal week for me.
But for those who know me (and wonder what I do all day) it would be great to let them know on a regular basis. Whether it's family who likes to keep up on my goings-on or clients who sometimes need a gentle reminder of my many talents, sending out a monthly newsletter is a worthwhile habit to get into.
Our local newspaper prints accomplishments of local businesspeople. So what better way to get the word to them than through a quick e-Card or Letter.
There are lots of online newsletter services that charge minimal fees (really, $10 a month is so worth it!), and you can customize them to the exact design of your website. I have helped many clients setup their newsletters & templates. And it helps me keep track of what they're doing.
I have tried several of them: Constant Contact, MailChimp, Vertical Response and iContact. They are all basically the same, give or take a couple dollars. Many of them have free trial periods (with limited sending capabilities). Or, like I mentioned, you can just jump right in for around $10 a month.
It's easy to import contact lists and your own images/logos. You can send your first newsletter in less than an hour. Plus, if someone opts out of receiving your news, the system takes care of it. You don't have to go in and delete anyone. Plus you get pretty comprehensive reports about a) who opened your newsletter b) what links they clicked to, c) who opted-out, etc...
Keep your name on the top of your clients' minds and you'll probably find yourself getting more work.
